Prince Edward County became an independent entity on January 8, 1754, formed from Amelia County by act of the Virginia Legislature.
Prince Edward County is celebrating its 250th anniversary in 2004, with a year-long series of special events, a commemorative historic calendar, and the republication of Herbert Bradshaw's classic "History of Prince Edward County."
